BOTOX®

BOTOX® is a safe, simple, and very effective solution to smooth out a variety of dynamic facial wrinkles and creases (i.e., wrinkles that develop from repeated facial expressions). The popular treatment is also helpful for patients who struggle with a condition known as hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, which typically affects the palms of the hands, the soles of the feet, and the underarms.

Our board-certified dermatologists and skin experts understand the effect that wrinkles or uncontrollable sweating can have not only on your appearance but also on your self-esteem. We have the experience, training, and technique to skillfully administer the neuromodulator in the right place and the perfect amount to give you the results you’re looking for.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Kinds of Wrinkles Does BOTOX® Treat?

A neuromodulator is a treatment injected into a targeted muscle under the skin to restrict or inhibit the nerve action of that muscle. By stopping the nerves, the muscles relax and allow the overlying skin to smooth out.

This makes Botox very effective at treating wrinkles like:

  • Laugh lines
  • Smile lines
  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Smoker’s lines
  • Bunny lines
  • Neck bands

If any of these wrinkles and creases are affecting your appearance and self-confidence, why not schedule a consultation with the specialists at Pima Dermatology?

What are the Treatment Areas?

Botox is formulated from botulinum toxin and are ideal for correcting wrinkles in or around the following areas:

  • Forehead
  • Eyes and eyebrows
  • Neck

A skilled Cosmetic Provider can carefully address each treatment area in order to provide results that are as subtle and natural-looking as you would like.

How is BOTOX® Used to Treat the Symptoms of Hyperhidrosis?

BOTOX® is a popular method of treating excessive sweating in certain parts of the body, such as the armpits, the hands, and the feet, by temporarily relaxing the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. The treatment effectively helps control severe sweating, allowing the patient to simply produce moisture at a normal rate in the treated areas. The results can last between 2 and 6 months, providing patients with a period of relief from their symptoms. Follow up treatments are recommended in order to maintain the results.

What is BOTOX® Treatment Like?

BOTOX® is one of the most common treatment procedures administered at Pima Dermatology – and with good reason. One session is quick, easy, and minimally invasive. Within 4-7 days, you’ll start to see smoother areas of your face where you regularly make expressions.

Whether treating wrinkles or hyperhidrosis, the procedure is quick and easy – usually 15-30 minutes – and you can resume your day immediately. No anesthesia is required, though you can choose a topical numbing agent to completely reduce discomfort.

You can expect to have a smoother, wrinkle-free appearance for 3-6 months, although results do vary. Side effects are usually mild and last 1-2 days; they typically include pain or soreness, tenderness, and swelling.

When treating excessive underarm sweating, the actual procedure takes no more than 10 – 15 minutes and the results can last about 2 – 6 months. Most patients can expect to notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating within 4 weeks of the first treatment. In some cases, follow-up appointments may be necessary to achieve the best possible results.

Why Consider BOTOX®?

If you’d like to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and facial creases around your eyes, forehead, mouth, or even neck, then this neuromodulator might be the treatment for you. It is minimally invasive and can be tailored to meet your specific needs and aesthetic goals.

Also, Botox is not just for women. More and more men are finding success with non-surgical treatments that deliver a more youthful appearance. If you’re a man who believes that a wrinkle treatment or a hyperhidrosis treatment can help you either personally, professionally or both, then schedule a consultation with the experts at Pima Dermatology.

How does BOTOX® work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected directly into the muscles between your brows. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those persistent lines to form.

How long does BOTOX® Cosmetic last?

Results from treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic can last for up to 4 months. If you discontinue treatment, the frown lines between your brows gradually will look like they did before treatment.

Many people are in and out of the physician’s office without downtime following BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment.

Will I experience any side effects?

What exactly is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people 18 to 65 years of age. Any authorized healthcare professional can administer BOTOX® Cosmetic, but dermatologists, plastic surgeons, ophthalmologists, otolaryngologists (ear, nose, and throat doctors), or other physicians specializing in cosmetic procedures are generally more experienced. One of these physicians can help you decide if BOTOX® Cosmetic is right for you.

To make the selection process easier, you may want to consider choosing a doctor from the BOTOX® Cosmetic Physicians’ Network. Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

If you do not continue treatments, the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows will gradually look like they did before treatment.

Within days, you may see an improvement that can last up to 4 months. Results may vary. If you do not continue treatments, the frown lines between your brows will gradually look like they did before treatment.

What does FDA approval mean?

You’ve heard it many times before: A product is advertised as “FDA-approved.” But what does that really mean?

In the United States, prescription drugs and biologics are required to undergo rigorous laboratory, animal, and human clinical testing before they can be put on the market. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reviews the results of these studies to:

  • Verify the identity, potency, purity, and stability of the “ingredients,” and
  • Demonstrate that the drug is safe and effective for its intended use.

BOTOX® Cosmetic received FDA approval in 2002 for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people 18 to 65 years of age. BOTOX® Cosmetic is available by prescription only.
