Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Sciton® MicroLaserPeel?

The Sciton MicroLaserPeel is a laser resurfacing treatment designed to improve skin tone and texture for a smoother, more radiant appearance. It treats sun damage, fine lines, uneven skin tone, enlarged pores, and rough texture.

How does it work?

MicroLaserPeel uses a 2940 nm Erbium:YAG laser with Sciton’s Contour Scanner to precisely remove a controlled depth of the outer skin layers. This full-field resurfacing treatment stimulates skin renewal and collagen remodeling for enhanced smoothing and rejuvenation. It may also be combined with other Sciton treatments, such as BBL or MOXI, for enhanced results.

What happens during the treatment?

Prior to the procedure, a topical anesthetic will be applied to improve comfort. The treatment involves precise removal of the outer layers of skin using the laser, as determined by your Cosmetic Provider.

The treatment is generally well tolerated and typically takes 30–60 minutes depending on the area treated. Before leaving the office, a restorative skin cream will be applied to help retain moisture and support healing.

What does MicroLaserPeel feel like?

Patients often describe a warm to hot sensation during treatment. Afterward, the skin may feel tight and similar to a moderate sunburn for several hours.

How many treatments are needed?

Discuss your goals with your Cosmetic Provider. Many patients achieve optimal results with 1–3 treatments. You may choose a single, more aggressive treatment or a series of lighter treatments over time.

Post-Treatment

  • The procedure requires a post-treatment care regimen that must be followed. Immediately after treatment, your skin will appear red and may feel warm, tight, and sensitive.
  • Within 2–4 days, the skin will begin to peel and slough as part of the natural healing process.
  • Redness and swelling are expected and may last several days depending on the depth of treatment.
  • Mild plasma weeping (clear to slightly yellow fluid) may occur within the first 24–48 hours.
  • Keeping the skin moisturized and following your provider’s instructions will support proper healing. Cold compresses may help reduce heat and swelling.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, sweating, and heat exposure (hot tubs, saunas, steam) during the initial healing phase.

Can I return to normal activities after my treatment?

You will receive post-treatment instructions to support healing. Most patients experience downtime of approximately 3–7 days, depending on treatment depth.

You may resume normal daily activities as tolerated, but social downtime is expected due to redness and peeling. Avoid activities that generate heat or sweating until your skin has healed.

When will I see results?

Within 5–7 days: Skin appears smoother and more refreshed after peeling resolves. Within 1–2 weeks patients see improved tone, texture, and clarity. Continued improvement occurs over time as collagen remodeling takes place.

How long will my results last?

Results can last several months to years depending on your skincare routine and sun protection. Continued maintenance treatments and daily use of broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) are recommended to maintain results and protect your skin.
